Poplar wood torrefaction: Kinetics, thermochemistry and implications

The kinetic and thermochemical models for poplar wood torrefaction were developed in the present work. model satisfactorily fitted experimental thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) data of provided a coherent description evolution volatile solid products terms set identifiable chemical components elemental compositions. described performance processes. results from showed that (1) high temperature increases rate products, favors formation volatiles; (2) heating has slight effect on process; (3) mass energy yields are significantly influenced by both residence time; (4) heat reaction is mostly endothermic with relatively small amount (less than 10% raw material content); (5) overall processes, sensible latent accounts 5–18% total input remaining transfers into contents products. This work provides theoretical guidance future evaluation optimization woody biomass systems/processes, thereafter industrial application conversion.
